EXCLUSIVE: Screen Gems has made its choice: Jamie Campbell Bower will get the male lead in The Mortal Instruments, the Scott Charles Stewart-directed adaptation of the Cassandra Clare novel series. He’ll play Jace Wayland, starring alongside Lily Collins, who’ll play the lead heroine Clary Fray. She has The Sight, and can see both demons and Shadowhunters. Jace is one of the best of the latter. When Clary’s mother is abducted, she is forced to learn about her bloodline and abilities in order to get her mother back. Clare’s series is comprised of six novels and is expected to launch a franchise. The role has been considered a potential star making vehicle for an actor and there has been much speculation on who’ll get it. I’m told the deal is making now for Bower, who is best known for playing King Arthur in the TV series Camelot, and for playing Caius in the final installments of The Twilight Saga and Gellert Grindelwald in the final Harry Potter films. He’s repped by CAA and London-based Simon Beresford.

Earlier this month, we asked whether “The Twilight Saga: Eclipse” would rule the 2011 MTV Movie Awards. Well, that question will finally be answered on Sunday night when the show goes live from the Gibson Amphitheatre in Los Angeles with “SNL” star Jason Sudeikis serving as host.

The third “Twilight” flick is up for eight Golden Popcorn statues this year, and given the series’ past record, Twi-hards probably don’t have to worry too much about its chances.
The director of the first “Twilight” flick, Catherine Hardwicke, says she is not surprised that people are still as frenzied about the movies as they were back in 2008.

“Well, I think it’s great. I love it that people are so passionate about it and that people are really into it and following the characters,” she told MTV News when we chatted with her about the June 14 DVD release of “Red Riding Hood,” which she also directed. “I think it’s a great tribute, obviously, to what [author] Stephenie Meyer created. … Rob and Kristen and everybody’s been able to just keep it going and keep people loving it all this time, and, of course, all the directors, everybody. I think it’s awesome. It’s great.”
Stewart is nominated in the Best Kiss category for locking lips with both Taylor Lautner and Robert Pattinson. So which kiss does the director think she should win for? “Maybe it can be a tie? That would be perfect! I think [that's] the safest solution to this problem,” she laughed.

Blackfilm has a new exclusive interview with Edi Gathegi, who will be appearing as mutant Darwin in the upcoming film X-Men: First Class. But of course, we know him as Laurent in Twilight and New Moon! And it looks like we might see him on our TVs in the near future, as well!

How’s life been for you as an actor since you did the first two ‘Twilight’ films? With your character killed off, were you able to get more roles?
EG: I didn’t work for like a year and a half after ‘Twilight’. So, in many ways it’s not really rational because I’m an actor through and through. I went and did regional theater to fulfill me because inhabiting a character and performing is why I do it, but I definitely didn’t work for a year and a half and I questioned whether or not I was going to have the opportunity to do it at that level ever again. I went through a roller coaster of emotions after my character didn’t come back from the second ‘Twilight’ film, but I think that everything happens for a reason. It’s just great to be a part of something else, something that in many ways is a childhood fantasy. I feel very fortunate. I feel very blessed.

I read that you’re doing a pilot for a USA series called ‘Wild Card’. What’s the show about and what’s your character’s role?
EG: The show takes place in Vegas and the basic concept is what happens in Vegas stays in Vegas, but only if you have a good lawyer. People go to Vegas and they misbehave and maybe they get thrown in jail when the sun goes down at nighttime. Our job is to get them out of jail before the sun comes up. So, it’s a dramedy. It’s an hour procedural where two lawyers and an investigator are out trying to help out these heathens. I play the investigator.

Booboo Stewart will soon be seen in the highly anticipated ‘Twilights Saga’s: Breaking Dawn 1′ this November–followed by ‘Breaking Dawn 2′ next year.  In which he will reprise the role of Seth Clearwater he played in the amazingly successful ‘Twilight Saga:Eclipse’. Booboo can also be seen in the Indy feature ‘American Cowslip’ and soon to be released ‘Smitty’ opposite Mira Sorvino and Peter Fonda. He is scheduled to begin filming the feature film ‘ Jake Stevens -The Last Protector’ in which he will play the title character.

 

Booboo is a 17 year old dynamo who literally wants to do it all. He has already made great strides as an actor, singer, dancer, gymnast, stunt person, model and musician. Soon to also expand his many credits by releasing a comic book “Millennium Man” which he created and illustrated. He has recently been working on his TV resume –guest starring in shows such as ‘CSI-Miami’, ‘The Haunting Hour’ and ‘Good Luck Charlie’.  Booboo began his career path modeling –H&M and Guess to name a few and performing with the Walt Disney Records musical group ‘T-Squad’ touring with the likes of ‘The Cheetah Girls’,’ The Jonas Brothers’ and ‘Miley Cyrus’. He now is in the process of finishing his album with his sister Fivel Stewart, which will be released the summer entitled ‘Change’. Booboo is endorsed by GIBSON GUITARS and plays the guitar, drums and piano.

Along with being a member of GATE (a program for academically gifted children) , he is also an talented athlete. He has been training and competing in the word of Martial Arts most of his life–winning two consecutive World Titles and being inducted into the Black Belt Junior Hall of Fame.

He and his sister are very involved with charitable organizations, having recently been names as Celebrity Ambassadors for ‘Child Help’. He also works with MDA and the Los Angeles Mission.

The release date for volume 2 is set for October 11, 2011. From publisher Little Brown:

Yen Press, the graphic novel imprint of Hachette Book Group, announced that it will publish the eagerly-awaited second volume in the graphic novel adaptation of  Stephenie Meyer’sTwilight on October 11, 2011.  Twilight: The Graphic Novel, Volume 2 will be released as an e-book and in hardcover for $19.99 ($22.99 CAN) with a first printing of 350,000 copies.

Now that Robert Pattinson has wrapped his time on The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn, Pattinson has moved on to Toronto for the David Cronenberg film Cosmopolis, which begins filming next week in the Canadian city.

Ahead of the May 24 shooting of Cosmopolis, Robert Pattinson is now in Toronto to begin shooting for David Cronenberg. Since Pattinson is in Toronto for Cosmopolis early, Robert Pattinson has already been spotted with Kristen Stewart, who is said to be in the city until she begins production on Snow White and the Huntsman in Montreal.

Different sightings place Pattinson in Toronto as witnesses have seen Robert walking his dog and at a recent Adele concert. The schedule for Cosmopolis will keep Robert Pattinson in Toronto for two months before the production moves to New York.

“TheTwilight Saga’s” Mia Maestro will star in Maya Entertainment’s psychological thriller “The Darkness of the Road.”

Maestro, who played Carmen in Summit Entertainment’s franchise, will play a young mother whose daughter disappears after picking up a mysterious hitchhiker.

Eduardo Rodriguez (“Fear Itself,” “Curandero”) wrote the screenplay and will direct.

Luis Guerrero and Chris Lemos of Vital Pictures will produce with Sandra Avila and Moctesuma Esparza of Maya Entertainment.

Maya will distribute the movie domestically.

With The Hunger Games casting over with, we’re moving on to another young adult book turned movie with a huge fan base — The Mortal Instruments.

There are three players on the board — Leebo Freeman, Jamie Campbell Bower, and Ed Speleers — to star as Jace Wayland, Clary Fray’s (Lily Collins) love interest in the film adaption, The Wrap reports.

According to the books, Jace “has fine wavy gold blond hair and eyes that look gold in the light and have long eyelashes. He has a slim, muscular build, and is about 5′11″. His face is described as being pretty and angular, and Clary often refers to him as beautiful and leonine, with a narrow mouth. Like all other Shadowhunters, he is covered in thin, silver scars from years of applying various magical runes with a stele for battle and healing purposes, as well as permanent runes.”

Wendell Pierce is playing a yet-to-be-revealed supporting role in Breaking Dawn, but it has just been announced that he’ll be playing blue legend B.B. King in an upcoming biographical film entitled B.B. King and I. Congrats to Wendell!

The excellent Shadow and Act, the latest addition to the indieWire family, have confirmed a tweet from the actor (Bunk’s on Twitter? We know who we’re following today) announcing that he’ll play legendary blues star B.B King in a new film focusing on the singer’s relationship with a young musician, “B.B. King And I.”

The film is written by Michael Zanetis & Melora Donoghue, and Zanetis himself, a former jazz drummer turned night club owner, serves as the ‘I’ of the title, and it looks like he’ll be played by “Almost Famous” star Patrick Fugit. The film’s official site provides a lengthy synopsis of the project that fills in some details.

Dakota Fanning has apparently been attached to the film Now is Good since last year, but I don’t recall hearing anything about it. Anyway, apparently more casting has been done and the film seems to be shaping up. Here are some details on the film:

Screen Daily report that among various projects that BBC Films unveiled as part of the 2011/2012 slate, one is “Now Is Good,” a drama about a girl dying of leukemia who puts together a list of what she wants to achieve before she dies, the top choice being to lose her virginity. Fanning’s been attached to the film since last year, and it was reported about six months ago that Naomi Watts was in talks to join her.

It looks like Watts has fallen off, which is a shame, but some very strong replacements seem to have been found: Olivia Williams, Paddy Considine and Jeremy Irvine, the young star ofSteven Spielberg‘s upcoming “War Horse,” have all signed on to the project. There’s no immediate word as to who each actor would play, but we assume that Williams has taken over from Watts in a part we imagine to be Fanning’s mother, with Considine possibly as her father, and Irvine as a potential paramour.

Now that the cast of The Hunger Games is just about set, it’s time to move on to the next teen fantasy/adventure book series film adaptation: The Mortal Instruments. Lily Collins (Priest) is locked as the lead in the Scott Stewart-directed flick. The Wrap reports that Jamie Campbell Bower, Ed Speleers and Leebo Freeman all tested opposite Collins on the Sony lot last week.

Bower is somewhat of a veteran of teen books-turned-films, having appeared in both Twilight (as Caius) and Harry Potter (as Gellert Grindelwald). Speleers is best known for 2006’s Eragon and Freeman is a newcomer. The book series centers on 15-year-old Clary Fray who witnesses a murder only to discover that she has encountered the “Shadowhunters”, a secret tribe of warriors who are on a mission to destroy demons. The top four contestants belted out inspirational ballads under the mentoring of Lady Gaga — who do you want to see move on tonight? Paul's no longer in the competition but he'll be hitting the road this Summer when the American Idol tour kicks off on July 5. Figures compiled for the Sunday Times Rich List illustrate just how lucrative the Harry Potter and Twilight film franchises have been for their stars.

Just as JK Rowling’s wizard adventures have beaten Stephenie Meyer’s vampire saga at the box office, Radcliffe has won the wealth battle against Pattinson.

Radcliffe, 21, is now said to be worth a staggering £48 million thanks to his appearances as Harry Potter on the big screen and his stage work.

Pattinson, 24, who appeared in the Harry Potter movies before going on to play Edward Cullen in the Twilight films, has amassed a £32 million fortune.

The figures put them in fifth and eighth positions respectively on the list of wealthiest Britons under 30.

According to The Playlist, Sam Claflin will be playing the handsome prince in Snow White and the Huntsman, which will star Kristen Stewart. More details:

Deadline reveals that up-and-comer Sam Claflin will bat eyes and tousle his hair at Kristen Stewart in the fairy tale film. The actor has already been featured in the series “The Pillars of Earth,” but is set to make a his big-screen splash opposite Johnny Depp in “Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides.” He’s also lined up the medieval sorcery flick “The Seventh Son” with Jeff Bridges and Julianne Moore. But if we have a word of advice for Claflin, it’s that he better start diversifying soon or he’ll fall into the trap of the same-ish tentpole roles that nearly swallowed up Orlando Bloom.
